CDL celebrates 60th anniversary
CDL marked its 60th anniversary with an event to commemorate its impressive growth since being established in 1963. Held at Orchard Hotel Singapore on Sept 5, the event was graced by the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong as the guest of honour. Kwek Leng Beng, CDL’s executive chairman, reminisced on the group’s journey since he and his late father, Kwek Hong Png, bought a block of CDL shares in 1969. The company now has an incredible portfolio of $31 billion in assets and over 8,000 employees worldwide, with its hospitality arm Millennium & Copthorne Hotels having grown from one hotel to over 155.
Sherman Kwek, CDL’s group CEO, also spoke at the celebration, expressing his sincere gratitude to all current and past colleagues for their passion, dedication and support. To commemorate the milestone, CDL has been contributing to society with various initiatives including setting up a wellness centre for children and families at City Square Mall, partnering with MigrantWell Singapore to enhance the well-being of its migrant workers and building a new annexe for the Singapore Sustainability Academy in City Square Mall.
CEO Sherman Kwek also touched on the company’s core values of integrity, collaboration and innovation. With such values firmly embedded in its culture, CDL has remained a trusted and successful global real estate company over the past 6 decades. Executive chairman Kwek Leng Beng stated that “From a homegrown group, we have grown beyond Singapore’s shores to the region and beyond, operating businesses across five continents”.

Kwek Leng Beng, CDL’s executive chairman, reflected on the company’s impressive growth since he and his late father and Hong Leong Group founder Kwek Hong Png purchased a block of CDL shares in 1969. From a home-based group, the CDL brand has developed to a global real estate company with assets estimated at $31 billion and over 8,000 employees located across five continents.
In light of their diamond jubilee, CDL has been collaborating with various organisations and initiatives such as the National Council of Social Service, National Parks Board and MigrantWell Singapore. This includes setting up a wellness centre for children and families at City Square Mall, raising funds for Community Chest, expanding their partnership with the National Parks Board on the CDL Green Gallery and Garden City Fund, as well as building a new annexe for its Singapore Sustainability Academy in City Square Mall.
Sherman Kwek, group CEO of CDL, mentioned the company’s three core values; integrity, collaboration and innovation in his tribute speech to all their past and present leaders. He added, “People are the most important asset in any organisation, and I would like to thank all my colleagues for their passion, dedication and support that has given us so much to be proud of”.
